"2 CRPG team consisted of eleven girls and four boys from the JCR program, one instructor, Warrant Officer Neil McElligott, and three Canadian Rangers."

The fifteen JCRs came from Blanc-Sablon, Tête-à-la-Baleine, Bonne-Espérance, Lourdes-de-Blanc-Sablonc, La Tabatière, Chevery, La Romaine, Havre-Saint-Pierre, Ivujivik, Kangirsuk, and Chisasibi patrols. "This team was selected at the Provincial Shooting Championship held in January in Farnham."

Proud Junior Rangers

The Junior Canadian Ranger Program (JCR) aims to provide youth from remote and isolated communities across Canada with a unique opportunity to participate in a variety of interesting and rewarding activities in a structured eynvironment. For many, it is an opportunity to meet other young people.

It is the case of Audrey Mercier from Tête-à-la-Baleine JCR Patrol. She joined the program in 2015 to meet others and socialize. "My village has a population of 100. I also appreciate the strict and military side of the program as well as the physical exercise.’’ This one dreams to open one day an art gallery.

JCR Félix Giasson Cadieux, from Havre-Saint-Pierre JCR Patrol, says he loves the program, especially the travelling opportunities. He joined in 2013 and wants to become a police officer, learning to shoot is also a great motivation. "My favourite activity is Camp OKPIAPIK, which is held every summer."

JCR Dawson Green, from La Tabatière Patrol, and JCR Cole Thomas, from Bonne-Espérance Patrol, are also shooting enthusiasts. "However, I joined the program last year to learn more about survival technic," says Cole Thomas who wants to become a trucker.

"My favourite part is field trips and shooting championships," says JCR Gabrielle Renaud of Havre-Saint-Pierre Patrol. She joined the program in 2011 and wants to study medicine.

JCR Jenna Dumaresque, from Lourdes-de-Blanc-Sablon Patrol, says she joined the program in 2016 to learn new things. "I am very happy to have learned to shoot," says the one who wish to become a PhysEd teacher.
